Приєднався 10 кві 2008
My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.

Throwing Caution To The Wind Roadtrip #adayinalife #vlog
#sleepaid
On a roadtrip and my van hasn’t been running well. But I carry on through the beautiful state of Oregon. I stayed at Manzanita Rest Area just outside Grant’s Pass. It wasn’t ideal but I slept well and am ready to get back to driving.

8 Years No Rent Experiment | Living In A Simple Minivan Camper

#vanlife #fulltimetravel Eight years ago I started an experiment to improve my life. I stopped paying rent and moved into a Ram ProMaster City minivan. To make the van comfortable, I added a MaxxAir Roof Vent Fan, a sink with running water, a stove to cook and make coffee and a Solar power system for my electrical needs. At first I wasn’t sure if I would be comfortable, but the van quickly beca...

Always relaxing watching you make coffee.
Hi Scott glad the van is still getting you around and you're felling better safe travels linda in Scotland ❤
When I moved to Santa Rosa with my son in 1987 there were 25,000 people. When we sold our house in 2001 and left the area the population was already exploding. It was part of the reason for leaving. The congestion everywhere was too much. I commuted to the city daily and had 3 kids at home. I’ve always been sad for leaving.
Understandable why you’d leave but also miss the area. It took me a few days to get accustomed to the traffic. But then I really started to enjoy the area. I hope to get back there next winter
This is not Living, this is SURVIVING... Heart breaking to see what US did to its citizens 😢
I put a lot of effort into this video. It’s sad to read comments from someone that didn’t watch the video
Isn't it amazing the hippie generation that lived out of VW vans grew up and made it all illegal? Call the cops on people doing the same thing they did. 😢
Lovely spot
look at property increases in last years and weep. get a mortgage...
That was helpful thank you! I'm going to take up the dirty stock rugs that came with this old van and get things much cleaner in here. Hadn't even thought of that as an option. Thanks again. I hope you're enjoying yourself today.
What kind of Smartwool T-shirt are you wearing?
The 100% Merino
@@StaticCamperVan Must be an old one then, most of the new stuff seems to have some kind of blend to it, and to make up for it they raised the price. ;-)
Bought the tshirts last Fall. Smartwool still sells a variety of full merino as well as blends
Do you have rugs in your minivan across all the floors like mine? How are you able to just sweep with a broom and not need a vacuum?
Not over the entire floor, this video shows the rugs in detail: ua-cam.com/video/pNuKQHmAz78/v-deo.htmlsi=-kxJrzZSI9nxsJTw
@@StaticCamperVan Thanks! I'll check it out.
To me that's perfect bacon
It’s called a hat. Just a hat.
You’re allowed to bring water and food when you leave your van, and go on long walks that way.
The view of the beach and water was really nice, thank you.
❤Good Evening ✨🌆 Scott ! Gald your Van is in Good Shape & your on Top of it! Your Lunch looks Delicious 😋😋😋 The Highways your driving on are so Beautiful ❤️ with the Mountains and Trees! 🤩 Gald your having a Good Breeze today and its not real 🥵 Thank You for Sharing your Adventures ,enjoy them, see you on the Next 1 👍🤞👌✌️🌻🌞🙏🙌🌟🌅🌄✨🎆🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
A drugged man pulled a knife on me in the Capitol hill area when I was ordering my pizza. I hardly ever see the police and yes, it's dangerous Seattle
At least there is a recall which means there will be some sort of correction. I know it sucks and is entirely inconvenient but it’s better than them just ignoring it.
I do give Chrysler credit for initiating the recall. But unfortunately, they didn’t fix the underlying problem. It appears that the company will phase out this engine. And besides, my claim was denied.
Thank you for sharing
good place for meditation in nature
26:26 But wouldn’t it be nice to have a bigger kitchen given all the cooking that you do? And an indoor toilet? Wouldn’t those things make a bigger van preferable? You could still spend as much time outdoors as you like. Just saying. Maybe a bigger bed too? Just a thought
I’ve discussed your questions in great detail in several videos. Since I am able to cook anything that I want, there’s simply no need for more space. I have an indoor toilet, no issues there. The videos where I recently rebuilt my bed go into detail as to why the size works so well for me.
Interesting. I would have thought more counter space would be helpful, but perhaps I’m overthinking. Where is the toilet located? What kind is it exactly? I’ve heard you discuss your sink in several videos, but you don’t seem to mention the bathroom situation as much. I don’t mind showering at the gym, but a real indoor toilet would be nice. Something more than a bucket I mean. On a par with your sink. Thoughts?
@anthonybradley394 I haven’t had a gym membership for years. The toilet is stored under my bed along with all the other bulky items. I have video on everything except the toilet. ua-cam.com/play/PL9PWzpL1cZIHqSZqC7ho6jhfWSQaLisGF.html&si=O94hARWW_0aTZ5dJ
You do seem to manage it all really well. I guess I’m just looking for a little more comfort with my van life, in particular with the toilet situation. I’d rather not have to drag a bucket out from underneath my bed every time I need to go to the bathroom, especially in the middle of the night. . Like I said, I don’t mind showering at the gym, but I do need an actual toilet-something I don’t have to dump out regularly or drag out from underneath my bed . How do you dispose of all the waste? Any issues with odor in such a confined space? Have you considered upgrading to a vehicle that could accommodate an actual bathroom with a free standing toilet? Thoughts?
Go to Portland. They allow camping in the streets and the homeless. I am vacationing on the oregon coast because the environment is pristine and I support the restaurants and lodging.
Your health problems may be directly related to your diet. Just saying....
Veganism??? U seem quite astute in so many other ways. 😉
I love Newport, no issues there, but the homeless problem has affected many towns on the west coast, if you lived here, you’d understand. Rent a vrbo there, it’s awesome, or rent a camping spot, don’t camp in front of someone’s house.
Could be the O2 Lambda sensor Scott
That stuff at the park was really cool to look at and wonder how it was used. Very interesting
I am a native Oregonian. I left 25 years ago and never looked back. Oregonians are rude. Arizona is much more friendly. Love it here.
I'm enjoying your videos. Thanks for sharing
No Rent, no mortgage??
Sorry you had a bad experience in Newport!! The homeless and drug problem there has become a bad problem for residents and tourists. It got to the point that you coulden't even go have a picnic or enjoy the sights without seeing old beat up motorhomes and tents etc.with people living there full time, strung out on drugs or whatever and just dumping trash, needles and dumping raw sewage on to the street! The police are tring to clean it up for everyone so they can enjoy the area, unfortunately sometimes normal folks like yourself get caught up in the "sweeps" but they really need to use common sense when it comes to this type of situation! Yes they are cleaning up the town, but if they continue to chase off tourists like yourself it will cost them money.....The money you and hundreds of thousands of tourists spend every year!! Please don't let your bad experience in Newport ruin your thoughts of the central Oregon coast, There are plenty of places that welcome "Van lifers" and other travelers, campers and tourists in our area! I know, I'm a campground manager here in the Siuslaw Natl. forest. Great video of the area by the way! Happy travels!!😊
Cool hike through the woods ... super gret video!
Can't beat California weather ... it is so great here.
I appreciate your gentle manner.
Would the health issues be any cheaper if you lived in a sticks and bricks?
My health is more easily managed when I can stay away from temperature extremes. So it would cost me more money to stay in a hot area as I would need more doctors visits. Since I can move around to find better weather, I do save money in that regard
What kind of toilet? Where is it?
Logical but so cramped and dark and crowded.
I saw one of your videos where you got run out of Newport Oregon. Sorry that happened to you. Parts of the state are like that. Most of the state isn't that way. Florence to the south isn't like that. There are quite a few people living in vehicles here. They just move to different streets every few days. Like the rest of the country, we are short of housing. If things are clean and neat, the city is pretty tolerant.
Since you mentioned parking, I have a couple of creepy stories to tell you about when I lived in my van in 2003. I no longer live in my van, but I did back then and was inexperienced about van life and was having great difficulty finding parking in the evenings for all the reasons I am sure you are aware of. Out of desperation to get a good nights sleep, I decided to try parking in a grave yard. Creepy I know, but the logic behind my thinking is that I figured nobody would be interested in going to a grave yard at night because it would be too creepy, so I figured nobody would be around to bother. Yes. It was creepy and no I did not want to be there, but my need for sleep over rode my heebee geebees. But to my shock and surprise after I parked, I saw headlights driving towards me!!! I was terrified!!! I thought a psycho killer was after me because who else but a nut job would be in a grave yard at night. I knew I was sane, but. I had no idea who was speeding towards me, so I hopped behind the wheel and sped out of there like a bat out of hell. When I approached the street light, I realized it was a cop car chasing me through the grave yard, which was a relief. But another time when I parked somewhere creepy, at 2 or 3 in the morning a big old black car pulled up beside my car. It looked like the big cars they used to drive in the 1970s that had a long trunk and a long hood, that kind of like the way the old Cadillacs were built accept it was not a Cadillac. It was just a big old creepy black car. Fortunately I was awake when it pulled next to me. I dont know if it was a psycho killer because I decided not to stick around and find out.
I’m laughing because I had that problem last week. I went to the dollar store and I bought a pool noodle and cut off 1/3 of it. The long piece goes down the side of my bed when needed and the short piece goes down the end of the bed when needed (on edge under the foam mattress.
Good idea
We spend alot of time on the coast. Its the homeless situation. They allow the old broken down rvs in residential neighborhoods, trashing the area, drugs, sex trafficking but stay away from tourist spots. They get tax revenue from hotels and rv parks and campgrounds. Yes, we have beautiful coast line and lakes, mountains and rivers. SI- U -Slaw
So nothing new…okay
The interactive dance between the ocean and those beautiful rock formations is mesmerizing. Thank you. When I lived in FL I loved watching the pelicans. Fascinating birds.
I live at altitude and hydrating definitely helps, so does liquid chlorophyll. You can usually find it under different brand names, but any herb store or health food store at altitude will carry it. You can also get it online. It helps your body utilize the oxygen more efficiently. Just a thought.
By home base, what do you mean? If you ever have any medical needs, at least in California ... what do you do? MediCal will make health care possible in California, but I think you need some kind of residency in the state or county?
🙋♀️☕️🥗Lovely making for awhile this Day some Journey travels with you Static. Salad looked delicious and your dinner somewhat how I cook using Ramen, eggs, carrots and some mustard and depending what else I have on hand. The walk by the water's edge looked so refreshing and relaxing... Sweet evening to you and Blessings 🥗☕️🙋♀️
Thank you
Sadly it's like this all over Oregon. My experiences the past few years have been horrific.
Sorry to hear this. There are plenty of friendly places still.
@@StaticCamperVan where was your favorite place?
My favorite place in Oregon is this place in the video. I’ve driven by Thor’s Well so many times before realizing what a beautiful place it is. Florence, Cannon Beach and Astoria have all been pleasant places, too.
I live 75 miles north of Santa Rosa, and I too do not like the traffic, noise, and crowding. I do not go for shopping, except I do like to get a piece or two of See's chocolate in the Farmers Lane store. The best coffee is Bad Ass on Mark West Springs Rd across from Sutter Hosp.
22hr to drive from Tacoma, WA to Escondido, CA
How can you mess up a pour-over cup of coffee? I have a nice large coffee mug on which I balance a heavy ceramic pour-over device to which I insert a gold metallic filter which holds the paper filters off the walls of the pour-over device so that the newly brewed coffee does not all have to leave through the one of few holes in the bottom of the pour-over device. Then I put an unbleached paper #4 coffee filter in the gold metallic filter and the coffee in that and add hot water ... not boiling water. I find that for some reason boiling water goes right through very quickly. It all tastes fine to me either way, but using water just under boiling seems to work and taste a little better. I'm not sure I've ever screwed it up, but I am not a true coffee fanatic either. My theory is that the faster you make the coffee the less acids and sludge you get in it. I tried the Cold Brew method for a while which worked pretty good, but it was a lot of labor and too much mess. Even had a coffee press unit which was my least favorite way to make coffee because it tasted too heavy. The cold filter is for a Cuisinart machine that I do not have, but I thought it would make it easier and quicker for the water to flow through the pourover device. I too do not like anything plastic to touch my food - which is a tall order these days. I have replaced almost all my plastic containers with glass, except for dry goods that I don't think are any danger. How does the water/coffee not just drip out the bottom of that *Aeropress* unit when you add water the way the manufacturer tells you to? I don't get that. But, it's plastic so I would not use it anyway. I bet those little circular filters are exprensive too. I used to have one of those aluminum 2-piece espresso makers, but I don't like the aluminum metal, or how hard it is to clean after every use, and how much coffee it uses too. I did try the stainless steel versions, but I don't like those either. I like my complicated pour-over method of making coffee. It is fast, quick and makes an acceptable brew and does not use up too much coffee either. I also have a little A/C electric coffee grinder machine to grind the whole beans. I can make about 2 cups of coffee at a time this way.
The homeless have ruined it for you guys, nice rigs shouldn't get hassled unless they litter.
